As an Advisor with Shift, Tomislav engages with our collaboration partners on an everyday basis, with a particular focus on advising governments on their role in implementing the Guiding Principles and advising European companies. With a strong policy and government background, Tomislav brings particular expertise in advising governments, regional and international organizations on legislation, policies and tools that support businesses and human rights, trade and economic development.
Prior to joining Shift, Tomislav was a Team Leader on Corporate Social Responsibility with the European Commission in Brussels. He worked closely with EU Member States on policies governing business and human rights, led the revision of the European Union's strategy on corporate social responsibility and negotiated positions on business and human rights in the EU's Free Trade Agreements. His responsibilities also included leading the European Union's initiatives in operationalizing the Guiding Principles.
Tomislav has held posts with international organizations and UN agencies, including working for the International Trade Centre on trade support in least developed countries and the International Labour Organization's Decent Work Country Programme in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He began his career helping to launch the UN Global Compact in Hungary and working on local economic development projects for the United Nations Development Programme in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Tomislav holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political Science and Economics from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Central European University in Budapest and a Master of Science in Local Economic Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Tomislav is also an alumnus of the Executive Education program at the Harvard Business School. He is a citizen of Canada, Croatia and Italy and speaks English, Croatian, French, Spanish and Italian.
