As an Advisor at Shift, Susannah provides expert advice to a select group of companies that are serious about human rights. With 15 years of experience working with companies on human rights and corporate responsibility, Susannah brings particular expertise in the extractives, infrastructure, utilities and construction sectors.
Prior to joining Shift, Susannah spent 10 years with global engineering services provider Amec Foster Wheeler. During this time, Susannah moved from a client-facing role as a sustainability consultant advising large public and private sector organizations, to an in-house role as the Head of Social Sustainability. As the Head of Social Sustainability, Susannah elevated the profile and understanding of human rights across the global business and established the company’s anti-human trafficking and modern slavery program, including developing an appropriate approach to due diligence and supplier engagement. Susannah was a standing member of Amec Foster Wheeler’s cross functional modern slavery working group, which reported to the Executive Committee. Prior to Amec Foster Wheeler, Susannah worked at several sustainability and advisory firms, including Verisk Maplecroft and PwC.
Susannah is a strong advocate for the value of collaboration within and across sectors to have a positive impact on human rights. She served as Vice Chair of Building Responsibly, an industry-led initiative of companies in the engineering and construction sector, working to promote worker rights and welfare. Susannah also served on the Advisory Group to the UK Network of the UN Global Compact, and was a Board Director of the United Nations Association of the UK.
Susannah has a Masters in Environment and Business from the University of Leeds and a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) from the University of Malta. She is a Maltese national based in the UK and speaks English and Italian.
