As a Reporting Program Advisor, Nora conducts in-depth analysis of companies’ human rights reporting and develops the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Database as a unique public resource. The Reporting Database is designed to drive improved corporate performance on human rights by making it easy for companies, their investors and other stakeholders to assess the quality of companies’ human rights disclosures and address any gaps.

Nora is a lawyer specializing in international human rights law with a focus on business and human rights. Prior to joining Shift, Nora interned with the Special Procedures Branch at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, supporting mandates related to sustainable development. Nora subsequently joined OHCHR’s Business and Human Rights team as an intern and later a consultant. There, she engaged in legal research in support of the Accountability and Remedy Project, which provided states with guidance to improve accountability and remedy for business-related human rights impacts. Nora also worked at the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic and competed in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, helping her team win the award for best brief at the regional level.

Following her legal studies, Nora held a Policy Fellowship at Accountability Counsel, advocating for accountability for environmental and human rights impacts in development finance. She then worked as a Policy Analyst at the Columbia Water Center, researching topics related to water risks in the metals mining industry, focusing on trends in environmental, social and governance reporting. Nora graduated cum laude from the University of California Hastings College of the Law with a concentration in international law and was admitted to the California Bar in 2016. Nora holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California Santa Barbara and is a US national.
